The town of Campi
After a two hour drive from the Perugia area to a town outside of Norcia, we are here. For the first two nights we will stay in an Agriturismo down the road from the donkey farm.
Elliot makes the first bullseye at
the Agriturismo.
We meet Roberto - the owner and operator of the Donkey farm, La Mulatierra. He selects our three donkeys for the trek - one for our supplies, one for Nadia and Lucas to share, and one exclusively for Elliot.
I should say that the donkeys select themselves. "Luna", a large gray and black speckled donkey, is pushing herself to the front of the pack when Roberto enters the corral. He says that Luna will join us because she has "voglia" - meaning she has desire. "Judita" (Judith) is chosen because she is perfectly sized for Elliot (piccola) and "Mozart" joins us because he is trustworthy - appropriate for Nadia and Lucas.

And with that, we have our pack.
